The Pickup Has Arrived

Reviewed by Joy Parris-Eddie Murphy is back in action with his latest project. The Pickup is a fun, fast-paced comedy packed with plenty of laughs and chaos. The film follows two armored truck drivers. Russell (Murphy) and Travis (Pete Davidson) embark on what should be a routine cash pickup. But things quickly spiral out of control.
Russell, a seasoned pro, is already on edge. It’s his anniversary, and he needs to make it home on time. Otherwise, he risks facing the wrath of his wife, Natalie (played by Eva Longoria). Unfortunately, he’s paired with Travis, a not-so-competent partner who’s more of a thorn in his side than a helping hand.
Of course, nothing goes as planned. The duo is ambushed by Zoe (Keke Palmer). She is a sharp and fearless criminal mastermind with a crew. She has a bigger plan than just stealing cash. As Russell and Travis try to survive the day, the tension, danger, and comedy all keep escalating.
While Pete Davidson’s character is intentionally over-the-top and annoying, I found the chemistry between him and Eddie Murphy surprisingly enjoyable. Keke Palmer stands out as a commanding femme fatale, holding her own opposite Eddie with ease. And let’s not forget Jack Kesy, who plays Banner—he delivers everything you expect from a good bad guy.
There is action, wild moments, and sharp one-liners. The Pickup doesn’t pretend to be more than what it is. That’s what makes it work. It’s just a fun, comedic action film, and sometimes, that’s exactly what you want.
