Film maker Jenée LaMarque tackles the mysterious connection of twins in the film,”The Pretty One” a coming of age story about a wallflower who learns to break out of her shell. Zoe Kazan portrays twins Laurel and Audrey in a moving performance that will definitely get under your skin. Laurel, the wallflower twin is excited that her vivacious sister is coming home to celebrate their birthday. When Audrey gets home she decides to give her sister a make-over for her birthday. On the way home tragedy strikes and the twins get in a fatal accident and when Laurel wakes up in the hospital everyone assumes she is Audrey and “Laurel” has died.
Laurel goes along with the mistake not wanting to cause pain to her dad, whatever her reasons she now has to become Audrey. In becoming Audrey, Laurel will ultimately get a chance to find herself. I love this film because in some way we can all identify with Laurel and her need to be loved. But the chance to reinvent oneself can be appealing on some level and one must also consider the cost.
The Pretty One is a must see film and it opens in theaters February 7th
