Special Needs Network Evening Under The Stars Gala Part 3
Angela Bassett and Sheila E. was honored as numerous elected officials and Hollywood celebrities attended the evening to support SNN’s 9th Annual ‘Evening Under The Stars’.
Angela Bassett was honored with the Trailblazer Award and Sheila E. received theEveryday Advocate Award at Special Needs Network’s 9th Annual “Evening Under The Stars” at Sony Pictures Studio, announced SNN President, Areva Martin. “A Toast to Old Hollywood” also recognized the outstanding work by Howard Kahn, President/CEO of L.A. Care Health Plan (Vanguard Award) and honor Dr. Richard Vladovic, President L.A. Unified Board of Education with the Leadership in Education Award. Presenting sponsors included Sony Pictures, Toyota and CBS2/KCAL9.
Stars ranging from Kathy Bates, Kym Whitley & Wendell James (Raising Whitley), actress Bai Ling, Omarosa, Judge Kevin Ross (America’s Court), Judy Tenuta and many others joined the evening’s Grammy-nominated artist B. Slade and lauded Latin R&B artist DW3 along with award-winning M.C. & rapper with autism, Rio “”Soulshocka” Wyles. Event chairSupervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas went beyond the call of duty to ensure vital politicians who support SNN LA were on hand throughout the cocktail hour, silent auction, awards, Wolfgang Puck catered dinner and live entertainment including: Assembly members Steve Bradford, Isadore Hall and Sebastian Ridley-Thomas, Congresswoman Karen Bass, City Councilmember Curren Price and Congresswoman (retired) Diane Watson.
The Gala raised $300,000 to benefit children with autism and special needs, their families and the MLK autism clinic via theSpecial Needs Network and its philanthropic outreach.
