Sony Pictures ‘The interview’ kicked off this morning at 12:35am from the Los Angeles’ Silent Movie Theatre run by nonprofit Cinefamily. It was a festive atmosphere will carolers, local news vans and an introduction by star-director Seth Rogen and his co-director Evan Goldberg.

“If it wasn’t for theaters like this and people like you, this wouldn’t be f*cking happening,” Rogen told the crowd, according to a Cinefamily tweet.

It’s a scene we can probably expect as the movie will be released in 331 theaters after Sony reversed course and struck a deal with independent exhibitors to release the picture after scrapping its original Christmas day release due to threats from Sony’s hackers.

In the action-comedy The Interview, Dave Skylark (James Franco) and his producer Aaron Rapoport (Seth Rogen) run the popular celebrity tabloid TV show “Skylark Tonight.” When they discover that North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un is a fan of the show, they land an interview with him in an attempt to legitimize themselves as journalists. As Dave and Aaron prepare to travel to Pyongyang, their plans change when the CIA recruits them, perhaps the two least-qualified men imaginable, to assassinate Kim Jong-un.

‘The Interview’ is also available on VOD that kicked off yesterday in which Sony made the film available via YouTube Movies, Google Plus, Xbox and its own dedicated site for a $5.99 rental.
