Premieres Monday, February 22 at 9/8c

“911, where’s your emergency?” says the dispatcher. “Ah, yes, I need… I need to report a… a shot man and he’s dead.” Ten minutes later, police arrive at Ashland Farm, a 340-acre, manicured estate in Warrenton, Va. It’s surrounded by flaming maples, magnolias, artificial lakes, oak benches embracing small glassy enclosures. But inside the servants’ kitchen on the estate, the only sound comes from the portable television sitting on the kitchen counter. 38-year-old Roberto Villegas, a professional Argentinian polo player, is lying face down in a pool of blood pressed into the wood floor. His eyes are frozen and staring. His jean-clad legs are extended straight behind him. He has been shot four times at close range. By his side is a long, bone-handled knife. Robert Villegas is dead.

Death of a Warrior Poet by Robert Sam Anson (originally published March 1997)

Premieres Monday, February 29 at 9/8c

Cruising down the Las Vegas strip, twenty-five-year-old Tupac Shakur is riding in the passenger seat of a BMW 750 sedan. The driver is Marion “Suge” Knight, head of Death Row Records, the leading purveyor of West Coast “gangsta rap” and a music-business phenomenon. As the BMW idles at a stoplight, a white Cadillac pulls up to the passenger side of the car and a pistol barrel eases from a window. Tupac frantically starts retreating into the back seat. There is a fullisade of 13 shots. One hits Tupac in the hand, another in the pelvis, two more penetrate his chest. Six days later, Tupac Shakur is pronounced dead. Las Vegas police have no idea who killed one of rap’s biggest stars… or why.

When Hamilton Somerville Jr., owner of the 345-acress hilltop estate known as Mount Athos, died suspiciously in late-2001, the eyes of Orange County, Va., turned to his pretty second wife, Donna. Once the hospice nurse for Somerville’s late first wife, was Donna now guilty of killing the man she’d comforted?

A Crime of Shadows by Mark Bowden (originally published November 2009)

Premieres Monday, March 14 at 9/8c

Katie Tarbox, a 14-year-old, living in New Canaan, Connecticut, makes secret plans to meet Mark, whom she met in a chat room. Little does Katie know that Mark is old enough to be her father or that he wants to be more than friends. When investigators begin to uncover disturbing details about the man, Katie’s case sparks a nationwide debate. It’s a debate that inspires an undercover agent in Pennsylvania to take on sexual online predators. After months of prowling Internet chat rooms, posing as the mother of two young daughters, Detective Michele Deery thinks she has a live one: “parafling,” a married, middle-aged man who claims he wants to have sex with her kids. Is his request real or is he just playing a twisted game of seduction?

Angel of Death by Ron Rosenbaum (originally published April 1991)

Premieres Monday, March 21 at 9/8c

In April 2007, Jana Van Voorhis is found dead in her Arizona home. Even though the medical examiner rules her death as natural, a local detective is convinced her body was staged. A year later, another body is found two thousand miles away in Georgia. It appears to be staged as well. When detectives in the two states compare notes, they set out to prove that the cases are connected and uncover a national underground organization that works hard to keep its activities secret. Members are given specific instructions on how to arrange what they call “death events” without being detected. As police struggle to confirm their hunch, they fear more will die. What will it take to uncover the truth? And how are these cases related to a man once dubbed “Dr. Death”?
