Pacific rim

Pacific Rim Uprising is a noisy movie with big intense special effects. The film is not great and it’s not  bad. There is an attempt at witty dialogue that sometimes works and other times it borders on cheesy. Even with its shortcomings the film is still enjoyable and with Scott Eastwood (plays Nate Lambert) does a very familiar signature squinty-eyed jaw clenching that resembles his famous Dad Clint Eastwood) that we enjoyed watching. There is nice chemistry between Jake Pentecost(John Boyega) and Amara Namani (Cailee Spaeny) which will probably work well for the next  installment of this franchise.

As we said it is a big noisy film with lots of Jaegers, drones and slimy gigantic creatures, and you know bad stuff is going to happen. In Pacific Rim Uprising the war is over and Jake(John Boyega) is making a living by stealing parts from scrapped Jaegers so he is definitely not living up to the memory of his beloved and well known father (Idris Elba’s character from 2013’s Pacific Rim). While robbing the junk yard he runs into a spunky kid Amara who eats, sleeps and breathes Jaegers that she has built her very own. Once these characters meet things get pretty crazy and they find themselves in pilot school with Jake forced to mentor and train a bunch of young cadets including Amara alongside his rival Nate Lambert.

There is the love/hate buddy relationship between between Jake and Lambert, a kind of romance that may bud with Jules Reyes( played by Adria Arjona) with either Lambert or Jake, corporate greed and an evil maniac by out for revenge.

If you like action, gigantic fighting machines and a hero that does not want to be a hero. Then head to the movie theaters, grab your popcorn, drink and just enjoy the ride.

Pacific Rim Uprising is directed by Steven S. DeKnight opens in theaters Friday, March 23rd, 2018
