Reviewed by Ishrat Jahaiara Quazi-Paul Schneider’s Just Another Dream is about a teenage girl who has the power to foresee the future through her dreams which can be a nightmare if you’re dreaming about death most of the time.

The story begins with Anna (Kayden Bryce) getting into an accident at 8-years-old. Following the accident, she suddenly starts having these nightmares where people die horribly. Now a teen she dreams about a bank robbery where a woman gets shot. After a few days, she finds out in the news that whatever she dreams about manifests in reality. She tells her mom, Cindy (Kristy Swanson), about the dreams. And like most families might react her mom is not convinced that it’s real. The solution-send Anna to a mental institution in the hopes that professional help would solve the problem. It’s not an easy decision for them to make but their options seem limited. Her best friend, Joshua (Copeland Diver), sort of believes her but, suggests that she should tough it out at the hospital. He also shares how when he was younger, he went through a traumatic experience and received therapy. His story is tragic because his sister dies in a fire and it was his fault. Going through teenage years is difficult enough and after hearing Joshua’s story she agrees to go in hoping it might help.

At the hospital, Anna meets Dr. Jenkins (played by Dean Cain) a seemingly well-intentioned psychiatrist who begins to run tests of her sleep pattern to determine the proper treatment. And like her Mom, he thinks there is a problem with her concept of reality. However, the mental hospital doesn’t help her much. They run tests and try to get her to do group therapy, but it’s just not working because she claims, “I’m not sick!” Dr. Jenkins tries to explain to Anna the complexity of the human brain and that much research still has to be done. Anna continues to declare that her dreams are real and she is not crazy.

In the hospital’s library, she meets a Native American custodian Takota (played by Eugene Brave Rock) who offers sage-like advice for her to take charge of her destiny. He also tells her how he hasn’t seen this kind of power of dreams in a long time and gives her a dream catcher as a talisman. I will admit their meeting seemed too well placed and I would have preferred if there was more of a mystery to their union.

However, when Anna has a dream that her family is in danger it was time for her to take action. And with the help of Joshua, they plan an escape in the hopes to avert another tragedy. When Dr. Jenkins arrives and reads the note Anna has left behind, one can see a myriad of expressions on his face. And we can tell her impact will have a lasting expression on his future work. I’m just gonna say this, Anna tries to save everyone until the very end. And that is worth watching. So give it a try for a truly cool ending!

Just Another Dream is a family-friendly sci-fi thriller, with heart and soul. A story that shows us the value of friendship and loyalty attributes that are sorely needed in our world today. There is a nice flow to the story so you’re hooked watching Anna go through this psychotic breakdown where she, herself is confused whether her dreams are real or not.
