Jay Mohr Reflects on SNL; Says Today’s Cast Is ‘good right now’
Jay Mohr shares hilarious behind-the-scenes memories from his SNL days. He talks about a memorable skit with David Spade and Fred Wolf. There are unforgettable moments with Chris Farley and Norm MacDonald. “We lost our minds screaming laughing,” he recalls. On today’s “Saturday Night Live”, Mohr says, “It’s good right now…This cast seems like they’re having a really good time.” He reflects on comedy greats he admires. Legends like George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Dave Chappelle, and Chris Rock inspire him. He adds, “Don’t take comedy so seriously.”
Jay Mohr: ‘My Whole Job Is to Smash My Ego—But I Still Need Applause to Survive’
Jay Mohr reflects on the paradox of comedy and recovery: “It’s such a weird job to balance comedy and recovery. Your whole job in recovery is to smash your ego. You must surrender and get on your knees every morning, which I do. But then, my entire existence, the reason I own a home is because people clap for me. My job is subjective. If you don’t like me, I don’t eat. My kid doesn’t go to a private school. I get applause on the way to my office, the stage. I talk for an hour; if you talk while I’m talking, you get thrown out. You don’t get to interrupt me. I’m the guy; I’m in charge. I say goodnight. I get a standing ovation, and then I leave my office. And then I sit alone in a hotel room in Albany, NY for 24 hours. Like, that’s insane and that’s since you’re 16 years old. That’s all you know.”
Jay Mohr on Recovery: ‘If You Want What I Have, Do What I Did’
“There’s a reason why my life is so great. Because I did the work and if you want what I have, do what I did. Like they say, if you’re not happy with results you can go back to that pipe, it will be waiting for you.” He adds, “I do recovery, and then my life also. I fit my life into recovery — I don’t fit recovery into my life.”
