The Assessment: Where Becoming a Parent Means Surviving the Test

In a tightly regulated future, resources are scarce. Every life must be justified. Parenthood is no longer a right. It’s a privilege granted only to those who can prove themselves worthy. Children are both a burden and a blessing, a rare luxury reserved for society’s most “deserving.”
Mia (Elizabeth Olsen) and Aaryan (Himesh Patel) are among the chosen few. They have been selected to undergo The Assessment. This seven-day trial will decide whether they are fit to become parents. But as their once-solid relationship is thrust into the spotlight, “lucky” is the last thing they feel.
Their evaluator, Virginia (Alicia Vikander), is cold, enigmatic, and utterly unreadable. Under her watch, Mia and Aaryan face a series of psychological trials. They also experience emotional trials that grow stranger with each passing day. These challenges become more invasive over time. What begins as a test quickly becomes a descent into paranoia, pushing the couple to their breaking point.
As doubts, secrets, and cracks in their bond surface, they suspect Virginia’s motives run deeper than protocol. They realize the test is not about parenthood but obedience, control, and something far more sinister.
Directed by Fleur Fortuné The Assessment is a cerebral thriller with darkly satirical edges. It dissects power and love and explores the perils of a society where bureaucracy trumps humanity. It is intimate and chilling. It poses a haunting question. In a world where the state decides who gets to create life, what’s left of being human?
