Prime Video Reveals Premiere Date For Spy Thriller Butterfly

Prime Video has released first-look images and teaser art for the upcoming spy-thriller series Butterfly. The series stars and is executive produced by Daniel Dae Kim (Avatar: The Last Airbender, Lost, Hawaii Five-O). It is based on the BOOM! Studios’ graphic novel series created by Arash Amel. With all six episodes, the spy-thriller series will debut on Wednesday, August 13, 2025. Alongside Kim, the series regulars are Reina Hardesty (The Secret Art of Human Flight). Piper Perabo (Yellowstone, Billions, The Big Leap) joins the cast. Louis Landau (Rivals) is another key member.
Butterfly is a character-driven spy thriller that explores complex family dynamics within the treacherous world of global espionage. It focuses on David Jung (Kim), an enigmatic and highly unpredictable former US intelligence operative living in South Korea. His life is shattered when the consequences of an impossible decision from his past come back to haunt him. He finds himself pursued by Rebecca (Hardesty), a deadly, sociopathic young agent assigned to kill him. Caddis, the sinister spy organization she works for, is also after him.

The previously announced recurring cast includes Kim Ji-hoon, Park Hae-soo, and Kim Tae-hee. Charles Parnell, Sean Dulake, and Nayoon Kim are also part of the cast. Sung Dong-il and Lee Il-hwa will appear in guest roles.

Ken Woodruff (The Mentalist, Gotham) serves as showrunner and co-creator for the adaptation alongside acclaimed novelist Steph Cha. Ken Woodruff and Steph Cha are executive producers. Daniel Dae Kim and John Cheng produce for 3AD. Stephen Christy and Ross Richie produce for BOOM! Studios. Arash Amel is the executive producer for The Amel Company. Additionally, Adam Yoelin serves as Co-EP for BOOM! Studios. Kim’s production company, 3AD, developed the series under their first-look deal with Amazon MGM Studios. Kitao Sakurai directed the first two episodes of the series.
