Reviewed by Feliz McInnis: OUTSTANDING is genuinely the only word that captures the magic. This magic is clear throughout this five-week run at CASA 0101 in Boyle Heights. Directed by Rigo Tejeda the exceptional cast showed dedication and heart. We were transported entirely from the moment the lights came up. These performers didn’t just act—they carried us, the audience, straight into the grandeur and mystique of ancient Egypt. Their commitment to their roles made the experience unforgettable. The breathtaking costume work of Tony Iniguez enhanced this vivid world. It was impossible not to be captivated.

This two-hour-and-twenty-minute production flew by like a single hour. The pacing was flawless—scene after scene flowed effortlessly, with not one dull moment in sight. The music of Stephen Schwartz lifted the entire experience, pulsing with energy, rhythm, and emotional depth. Every solo and duet hit with such clarity and harmony that you feel the goosebumps ripple through the room. Even famed critic Steven Stanley—in attendance at this sold-out performance—was visibly moved.

And the voices… truly remarkable. Diego Huerta-Gutierrez (Moses) delivered a performance filled with power and vulnerability. Joslynn Cortes (Tzipporah) brought soul and fire. Christopher J. Thume (Ramses II) commanded the stage. Naledi Miga (Nefertari), Danielle Johnson (Queen Tuya), Chrissi Erickson (Miriam), Kayleigh Long (Keturah), and Tal Toker (Hotep) shone brightly. The rest of the ensemble elevated every moment. Their talent rivals any central theatrical stage.

Tony Iniguez costume designs are masterpieces in their own right. Yes, he is the same creative mind behind dancer costumes for Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter tour. Every headdress, every drape, every piece of footwear was crafted with meticulous detail and love. As the saying goes, “He did that.” Beautiful, beautiful—and honestly, I say beautiful five more times and still don’t do them justice.

But beyond the artistry, beyond the talent and spectacle, something deeper and more meaningful is happening here. Bringing a production like Prince of Egypt to Boyle Heights is powerful. It matters. CASA 0101 has always been a home for culture. It is a place for storytelling and representation. Seeing a show of this caliber rooted in this community creates a sense of pride. This pride resonates far beyond the stage. It reminds us that world-class art doesn’t only belong to Broadway or major city centers. It belongs here, where our families, youth, and neighbors can experience it without barriers. These performances uplift the community. They inspire our young artists. They affirm that Boyle Heights is a place where excellence thrives.
