Three Movies Announced for “Vandy Days,” Celebrating Dick Van Dyke’s Centennial. Dick Van Dyke’s 100th birthday will be on Saturday, December 13th. He wants the celebration to be held in Malibu! The plan is to spread joy and help the entire community recover from recent wildfires. This will be done by creating a wide range of events across the city. These events include multiple movie screenings at both City Hall and Ollo Restaurant!

6:30PM Friday, December 5 @ Malibu City Hall – CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG: This classic musical stars Dick Van Dyke. He plays a down-on-his-luck inventor. He turns a broken-down Grand Prix car into a fancy vehicle for his children. This magical vehicle transports them on a fantasy adventure. They must save their grandfather in a far-off land. Arrive early to see the original CHITTY car made for the film! Audience check-in will then start at 6 PM, with the City of Malibu providing free desserts in the Community Room.
2PM Sunday, December 7 @ Malibu City Hall. DICK VAN DYKE 100th CELEBRATION: WORLD PREMIERE. Experience it one week before it opens in theaters nationwide! Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Steve Boettcher will introduce this feature-length documentary. It explores Dick Van Dyke’s life and career. It features some of his most memorable moments from film and TV. It also includes brand new interviews with the iconic entertainer, his friends, and co-stars. Arrive early for the Dick Van Dyke-inspired Costume Contest and an hour-long pre-show reception featuring a display of DVD memorabilia!
6:30PM on Sunday, December 14 @ Ollo Restaurant – MARY POPPINS: This stunning, fully-restored film won five Academy Awards. It stars Dick Van Dyke as Bert the chimney sweep. Julie Andrews stars as the magical nanny. She is hired to care for two children in an unhappy home. Eventually, she brings joy to the whole family.
Bring the whole family as everyone’s invited to attend all three shows:
- FREE ADMISSION to all three events for all sustaining annual members of MFS.
- The two events at City Hall are underwritten in part by the City of Malibu. Admission is FREE for Malibu residents who have completed the one-time pre-registration process here. They must then make reservations for the show(s) they wish to attend.
- Dinner & a Movie Night at Ollo tickets are $15 for non-members and just $5 for children & teens. All guests will receive 15% off the entire menu (excluding alcohol), which more than offsets the ticket price. Guests are invited to arrive for dinner anytime from 5PM until showtime at 6:30.
