Richard Taite on Lamar Odom’s DUI: “It’s a warning sign—not a headline to celebrate
Richard Taite—founder of Cliffside Malibu and founder/executive chairman of Carrara Treatment Wellness & Spa—offered the following on-the-record statement in response to reports that Lamar Odom was arrested in Las Vegas on January 17, 2026, on a DUI charge:
“When someone with a long public history of addiction gets a DUI, it’s not a headline to celebrate; it’s a warning sign. Recovery isn’t linear, and shame only makes things worse. The best outcome here is that this becomes the moment Lamar gets real support and avoids a far more tragic outcome.”

Taite previously interviewed Lamar Odom on the We’re Out of Time podcast on November 19, 2024, in a candid discussion about sobriety, relapse, mental health, and what it takes to stay in recovery.
During the interview, Odom spoke openly about the seriousness of his recovery and what keeps him sober, including:
“I’ve done a lot of drugs in my life… but this was the strongest sh*+ I ever took. It just kicked my ass and made me realize life is too precious.
“That’s what keeps me sober… that’s what makes me lucky.”
Public setbacks can become turning points—but only when people are met with real support and evidence-based care. Taite emphasized that shame and mockery can increase isolation, which is often a major relapse risk factor. If you or someone you love is struggling with substance use or mental health, support is available.
