Last night, Paramount Pictures and TikTok debuted “Secret Screenings,” a creator-first pre-release movie night that keeps the title completely under wraps until creators are seated in the theater. The inaugural event surprised attendees with a screening of the horror film Primate—including a special appearance by the film’s star, Johnny Sequoyah—and kicked off an ongoing “Secret Screenings” series that gives creators early access to both upcoming releases and library titles. Primate releases in theaters this Friday, January 9th.
By bringing creators directly into the theatrical experience through “Secret Screenings,” Paramount Pictures and TikTok are bridging the gap between audiences and the entertainment industry, putting creators at the heart of how stories are told, shared, and experienced, and helping to shape culture in real time. Primate marks the first in a series of “Secret Screenings” that the studio and TikTok will be partnering on throughout 2026.
In Primate, a group of friends’ tropical vacation turns into a terrifying, primal tale of horror and survival—Paramount Pictures Presents in Association with Domain Entertainment, an 18Hz Production. Primate stars Johnny Sequoyah, Jessica Alexander, Victoria Wyant, Gia Hunter, Benjamin Cheng, Charlie Mann, Tienne Simo,n and Troy Kotsur. Johannes Roberts directs it; written by Johannes Roberts & Ernest Riera; produced by Walter Hamada, p.g.a., John Hodges, p.g.a., Bradley Pilz; and executive produced by Vicki Dee Rock, Nathan Samdahl, Johannes Roberts, Pete Chiappetta, Anthony Tittanegro, and Andrew Lary.
The “Secret Screenings” series reflects TikTok’s growing role at the center of modern movie culture, offering fans an authentic, in-the-moment look into the film industry while enabling creators to drive real-time conversation and discovery. TikTok has sparked a new wave of film reviewers whose commentary increasingly influences audience perception, putting creators, fans, and filmmakers into direct dialogue.
As part of its continued investment in the entertainment ecosystem, TikTok is developing innovative products and features — including TikTok Spotlight — designed to attribute creative fan content to film and television titles, deepen community engagement, and help stories reach a wider audience across the platform. Together, creators, fans, and stars are reshaping the traditional release cycle, placing TikTok at the center of how movie buzz is generated today.
