About Fabian Nicieza

Fabian Nicieza, is a well known figure in the American comic book industry who is best known for co-creating Deadpool and his work on top-selling Marvel titles such as X-Men, X-Force, New Warriors, Cable & Deadpool and Thunderbolts.

Fabian Nicieza began his career at Marvel Comics in 1985 as the Advertising Manager in the Promotions Department. In 1991, along with Rob Leifield, he was responsible for the creation of X-Force – a title he wrote for the next four years. During this time, Nicieza also became editor for Marvel’s comics’ line for younger children, including best-selling Ren & Stimpy and two monthly Barbie titles.

By the end of 1992, he had joined the team working on the X-Men series, and for the next three years was one of the main driving forces behind the characters and storylines that led to previously unmatched sales heights. During this time Nicieza also wrote the first Cable mini-series, the ongoing Cable series, and the first Deadpool mini-series; Deadpool: the Circle Chase.

Nicieza left Marvel in 1996 and joined Acclaim Comics as senior vice-president and editor-in-chief. He was promoted to President and Publisher the next year and oversaw Acclaim’s comic publishing till its closure in 1998. Returning to freelance work, Fabian involved himself in a number of acclaimed projects including a year-long run on Dark Horse’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer series, a Magneto Limited Series, Gambit, a fifty issue run on Cable & Deadpool and a seventy-five issue run on the Thunderbolts.

In 2004, Nicieza worked with Starlightrunner Entertainment to develop the concept, characters and storyline for Hot Wheels: World Race. 36 mini-comics were inserted into the 36 car series at retail that told individual stories of that car and its driver within the context of a much larger storyline. Nicieza also helped SLR develop the storyline and co-write the second episode for the Hot Wheels: World Race, a 5 episode original animated cartoon series that aired in the United States on Cartoon Network. A DVD re-edited compilation of that series has sold over 10 million copies.

Exclusive to DC Comics over a five-year span starting in 2008, Fabian wrote or co-wrote Robin, Red Robin, Bruce Wayne: The Road Home and Trinity.

Currently, Fabian writes for Marvel Comics and DC Comics, and has a creator-owned property with artist Reilly Brown called Outrage that will be released by digital publisher Webtoon. He also provides intellectual property management and content development services to Starlight Runner Entertainment for Hollywood Studios, video game and toy companies, popular brand products, charitable and government organizations.
