The Aquabats! TV’S Punk Rock Heroes Take Over The El Rey Sept 1

WHO: TV’s punk rock superheroes The Aquabats formed in 1994 in Orange County as a way to have some harmless fun in a music scene that took itself too seriously. Their Paul Frank designed “power belts,” trademark blue rash guards, black eye masks, “anti-negativity” helmets and onstage antics quickly caught on, earning the group a fiercely loyal following that spans generations. Their line-up and music is continuously evolving, including Blink 182’s Travis Barker as former drummer “Baron Von Tito.”

The band’s Kickstarter campaign features Jack Black, Weird Al Yankovic, Imagine Dragons among others in a video entitled “I Am The Aquabats!” The extended Kickstarter campaign runs from Tuesday, August 28 through September 29, featuring a new episodic adventure as The MC Bat Commander leads fans on a quest to re-assemble The Aquabats while fending off some of their oldest foes – all while releasing new rewards and special surprises!

The Aquabats’ comrade, Jack Black, explains: “Ever since I met the MC Bat Commander on the set of Yo Gabba Gabba, I knew we were destined to become allies. Today, I’m excited to officially join forces with The Aquabats and our Righteous Comrades around the world. Together, we can save rock and roll for the kids… and us all. This is an extremely important mission, and I hope you’ll join us.”

Current Aquabats are Christian Jacobs, “The MC Bat Commander” (lead singer), Chad Larson, “Crash McLarson” (bass, vocals), Ian Fowles, “EagleBones FalconHawk” (guitar), Richard Falomir, “Ricky Fitness” (drums), and James Briggs, “Jimmy the Robot” (keyboards, woodwinds, vocals).

Puddles Pity Party is a 7’ tall sad clown with a golden voice whose performances have been described as “Pagliacci by way of Pee-Wee Herman and David Lynch.”  The New York Times says “His special effect is a textured voice laced with melancholy…What makes him transcend the trope is his vulnerability.”

Thomas Lennon is an actor, comedian, screenwriter, producer and director. As an actor he’s best known for his work as a cast member on MTV’s The State, for his role as Lieutenant Jim Dangle on the Comedy Central series Reno911! and as Felix Unger on the CBS series The Odd Couple.

WHAT: Listen up, friends: LET’S #BRINGBACKTHEAQUABATS! From August 28 through September 29, the band – who also happen to be legendary superheroes – are asking all of their friends and fans to answer the call and support their Super Kickstarter! which will raise the funds to make The Aquabats’ first new album since 2011, and up to a year’s worth of new serialized online adventures! We heed the call from our fans, who’ve been asking for new Aquabats music. When successful, 2019 will be a “year of The Aquabats” as we tour with our new album and celebrate The Aquabats’ 25th anniversary with Cadets across the country!

On September 1st, join The Aquabats with a legion of friends, allies, special guests, and maybe a few arch-enemies at the El Rey Theatre, as they bring their epic quest to Los Angeles for an unforgettable four-hour benefit concert. The show will feature the band’s beloved horn section and be the thrilling climax to their month-long online mini-series. No matter how many times you’ve seen The Aquabats, we guarantee there’s never been to a show(down) like this. Don’t miss out! All proceeds will benefit their current campaign to make more music and episodes.
