Jenifer Lewis Emotional Over ‘black-ish’ Legacy+ Exclusive: Akbar Gbajabiamila Talks ‘B&B’ Debut with Thorsten Kaye & Lawrence Saint-Victor; Surprise Offer (1/17)
Monday “The Talk” hosts reflect on Martin Luther King Jr. and share the meaning of the holiday. “He challenged for me the fundamental contradiction at the heart of United States and that’s one that really lies in equality for all,” says Akbar Gbajabiamila. “It’s not a day for relaxation, it’s a day for reflection.” Amanda Kloots adds, “He resembles so much about change at such a difficult time, pushing boundaries and standing up for others.” “There were so many that came together for the cause, for freedom,” shares Sheryl Underwood. “The torch is being passed to us…When you talk about what the promise to America should be, we have to still continue to fight for that because, injustice anywhere is still a threat to justice everywhere…Don’t think that this day is just about black people. This day is about everyone coming together.”
Jenifer Lewis Emotional Over ‘black-ish’ Legacy; ‘we made history’
Jenifer Lewis gets emotional discussing the final season of “black-ish” Monday on “The Talk.” “I have to tell you, we were all so weepy. That was eight years guys, that’s a long time,” says a weepy Lewis. “But I watched the kids grow up. The legacy of ‘black-ish’ is you know, we made history with the subjects the writers were so brilliant with. Juneteenth is now on the calendar, a national holiday. They did an episode on the n-word, police brutality, we addressed the issues of today and we gave families something to discuss at the dinner tables. You know, the racism, the depression…the creator [Kenya Barris] was a genius. He was bold, and he took chances, and we gave it everything we had. It was a wonderful set. And yes, I’m going to miss the kids more than anything.”
