Actress Betty White and Carolyn Hennesy headlined a MEDIA PREVIEW for the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association BEASTLY BALL fund-raiser.  The morning event featured chefs from iconic Los Angeles restaurants catering a FEAST FOR THE MEDIA with dishes inspired by their favorite LA Zoo baby animals.  Picture hippos, chimps, otters, koalas, kangaroos, and more brought to “edible” life in food!

These same restaurants donate their cuisine for guests at the June 20 Beastly Ball, which is the main fund-raiser held by GLAZA, a private, non-profit organization that raises money for the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens.

The restaurants offering their services are Antonio’s Pizzeria & Italian Restaurant, Canele, Celestino Ristorante, El Cholo-Los Angeles, El Coyote Mexican Cafe, Glorious Gourmet & Garnish Cafe, Hard Rock Cafe, Jersey  Mike’s Subs, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, La Monarca Bakery, Pink’s Famous Hotdogs, Sams By The Beach, Taste Of The Wild Catering At The Los Angeles Zoo, Taix French Restaurant, The Federal Bar and Yummy Cupcakes.

Pink’s Famous Hot Dogs offered CHILI DOGS WITH SPOTS OF MUSTARD to represent the L.A. Zoo’s giraffes, including baby Leo/Photo Jaime Pham

CAROLYN HENNESY (“True Blood,” “Cougar Town,” “General Hospital”), GLAZA and Zoo representatives, and honorees 99 Cents Only Stores spokesman and City Councilmember TOM LABONGE, were also in attendance for previewing the 45th Annual Beastly Ball, which benefits the Zoo. On June 20th, The Tom Mankiewicz Leadership Award will be given to the music industry performer Lance Bass.

Since its inception in 1969, the Beastly Ball has evolved into one of the premier fundraising events in Los Angeles. Guests stroll throughout the Zoo grounds, enjoying music, visiting the animals, sampling fine cuisine, and bidding on silent auction items. Each year, funds raised by this annual event help the Los Angeles Zoo to achieve diverse goals in public education, exhibit improvement, and local and global wildlife conservation projects.

The Los Angeles Zoo is located at 5333 Zoo Drive in Los Angeles’ Griffith Park at the junction of the Ventura(134) and Golden State(5) freeways.
