Nominees Announced For The 17th Annual Women’s Image Awards

0

Los Angeles, January 19th-Women’s Image Network (WIN), the organization that honors men and women who’s outstanding artistry advances the value of women and girls, announced today its honorees and nominations for The Women’s Image Awards, the 17th edition of the annual celebration. The reception and ceremony will be held at Royce Hall UCLA Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at 7pm.

Not only will The WIN Awards celebrate its 2015 WOMAN OF THE YEAR honorees, Irena Medavoy and Abigail Disney, they will also applaud dozens of deserving nominated film and television artists whose work promotes gender parity.

Since 1993, Women’s Image Network has produced The WIN Awards to honor artists who create female media images, which promote the value of women and girls. Presenters for the evening include: Ambassador Nicole Avant, Cheryl Hines and Joyce Giraud.

The WIN Awards Event Co-Chair Committee members are: Ambassador Nicole Avant, Joyce Arad, Rosanna Arquette, Florence Azria, Red Barris, Danielle Del, Roma Downey, Wendy Goldberg, Lysa Heslov, Ghada Irani, Yue-Sai Kan, Lauren King, Jena King, Lyn Lear, Lynda Resnick, Sybil Robson Orr, Florence Sloan, Jennifer Stallone, Alia Tutor, Cynthia Yorkin and Erica Wertheim Zohar.

Previous WIN Awards honorees include: Dame Elizabeth Taylor, Lauren Bacall, Senator Barbara Boxer, Lily Tomlin, Cecila DeMille Presley, Ambassador Swanee Hunt, Maria Arena Bell, Lauren Bacall, Jane Campion, Elizabeth Guider, Lynn Redgrave, Diane Ladd, Lauren Shuler Donner, Pierce Brosnan, Catherine Hardwicke and Gurinder Chadha.

After spending 17 years producing The Women’s Image Network Awards to address disparity it seems the facts of entrenched gender inequality in Hollywood have now reached a zeitgeist. Emma Watson is not afraid to call herself a feminist— despite some advice she’s been dealt in the past. The actress delivered a much-praised speech at the U.N. Solidarity Movement for Gender Equality HeforShe launch event, encouraging men to fight for women’s equality across the world. Moreover, this summer ELLE gathered Mary J. Blige, Ava DuVernay, Meryl Streep, Carey Mulligan, Salma Hayek, Amy Schumer, Zoe Saldana, Kate Winslet, Dakota Johnson, Alicia Vikander, Gena Rowlands, Cheryl Strayed, Reese Witherspoon, Stella Banderas and Melanie Griffith who addressed disparities. Lastly, comments made by Jennifer Lawrence and Amanda Seyfried about wage gaps to Patricia Arquette’s Oscar speech and Rose McGowan getting fired for acknowledging sexist casting calls, show Hollywood mistreats many female actors, writers, producers and directors. In addition to applauding actresses, directors, writers, producers and films and television shows, The WIN Awards pay tribute to invited honorees who share WIN’s mission to “Foster a World Where Everyone WINs®.

In addition to producing The WIN Awards Show, WIN also created and produced the Primetime ABC Special FIFTY YEARS OF FUNNY FEMALES with John Ritter, Debbie Allen, Paula Poundstone and Annie Potts and The WINFemme Film Festival which WIN produced for four years to promote independent films with female protagonists.
